Crisp extension to a character property
This charming stone-built character property is poised on the border between Rutland and rural Northamptonshire. And its crisply-styled, zinc roof extension is absolute proof that you don’t need grand scale to produce something truly impressive. During the new build, AFD were also commissioned to update the flooring and decor in several rooms in the existing building.
The breathable nature of high calcium lime render reduces the risk of both cracking and trapping moisture which can lead to decay.
Oak trusses crafted using traditional mortise and tenon joints and timber pegs suit both traditional and contemporary style buildings, so they work particularly well here. Slot drains overcame the drainage issues created by the use of flush aluminium sliding doors and free-flowing internal/external flooring.
At AFD we believe that beauty is in the details. Beautifully executed lead flashing and the exceptionally clean meeting of zinc and stone bring an extra dimension to the project.
